The winter season at Walnut Hills High School was defined by high-level achievement, historic milestones, and a continued commitment to excellence both in competition and in the classroom. Across multiple programs, Eagles student-athletes delivered standout performances that brought recognition to the school at the conference, city, and state levels. Leading the way was senior swimmer Quinn Schureck, who etched her name into Walnut Hills history by capturing an OHSAA State Championship. Schureck’s title not only highlighted her individual dominance in the pool but also served as a defining moment for the Eagles’ winter season, energizing the entire athletic community. On the hardwood, both basketball programs experienced tremendous success. The girls basketball team battled its way to a District Runner-Up finish, showcasing resilience and consistency throughout the postseason. Junior standout Jasia Ross, who was also named a Cincinnati Public Schools Athlete of the Month, led the charge and earned First Team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC) honors. She was joined by teammates Honesty Billups, Linde Harris, and Sanei Partridge, who each secured Second Team All-Conference recognition, while Zamari Baker earned Honorable Mention. The boys basketball program, under the leadership of Head Coach Cashmere Wright, enjoyed a breakthrough season that saw the Eagles emerge as one of the top competitors in both the ECC and the city. Wright’s impact was recognized with ECC Coach of the Year honors, while multiple players earned postseason accolades. Landen McDaniel and Charlie Stoffregen were named First Team All-Conference selections, with Damien Brock and Jayden Seeley earning Second Team recognition. Miles Klump-Lawson added an Honorable Mention nod to round out a strong showing for the program. Walnut Hills’ success extended well beyond basketball. The Academic Quiz Team (AQT) continued its tradition of excellence, capturing the ECC Tournament Championship and placing multiple students on the All-Conference teams, including First Team selections Nikolai Federov and Jackson Riddle. In the pool, the depth of Walnut Hills’ swimming and diving program was on full display. In addition to Schureck’s state title, athletes like Molly McCracken (First Team All-ECC) and a host of Second Team honorees—including PJ Varatta, Oliver Connick, and Isaiah Greenlee—demonstrated the program’s strength across events. The team’s consistent performance also translated into multiple Cincinnati Enquirer Athlete of the Week honors throughout the season, with McCracken, Varatta, and others earning recognition. The bowling program saw individual success as well, with Graham Johnston earning ECC Athlete of the Week honors and Briana Hirth and Madeline Wells securing Second Team All-Conference recognition. Wrestling added to the Eagles’ accomplishments with Kiran Fernando earning Second Team All-ECC honors. Recognition for Walnut Hills athletes extended across the Cincinnati sports landscape, as both the boys and girls basketball teams, along with several individual athletes, were honored as Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes and Teams of the Week throughout the season. These accolades reflected not only performance but also the growing visibility and respect for Walnut Hills athletics across the region. Beyond competition, Walnut Hills student-athletes continued to excel academically. Dozens of Eagles earned ECC All-Academic honors by maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher, reinforcing the program’s commitment to success in the classroom. Programs such as swimming and diving, basketball, bowling, and AQT were especially well represented on the academic list. The Eagles also celebrated several student-athletes who signed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Damien Brock (Edison State University), Onyx O’Neill (University of Northwestern Ohio), and Sanei Partridge (Fairmont State University) will all take the next step in their academic and athletic journeys, representing Walnut Hills at the next level. As a department, Walnut Hills remains in strong position in the ECC All-Sports Trophy standings, currently sitting fifth overall with 102.5 points through the winter season. With a strong fall and momentum from winter success, the Eagles are poised to make a push as the spring season gets underway. From championship moments to academic achievement, the winter season at Walnut Hills reflected a well-rounded and thriving athletic program. With continued growth across teams and a culture centered on excellence, the Eagles have firmly established themselves as a force within the ECC and the greater Cincinnati athletic community.
