Dear Walnut Hills Football Families, My name is Coach Goodman, and I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new Head Football Coach at Walnut Hills High School. I want to thank the administration for this opportunity and share how grateful I am to join a school and community with such a strong tradition of excellence both academically and athletically. I am truly excited about the opportunity to work with your sons and to build a football program that reflects the values of Walnut Hills. My goal is to develop student-athletes who compete with passion, discipline, and pride, while also emphasizing character, accountability, and teamwork. Success on Friday nights matters, but preparing young men for life beyond football matters even more. As we begin building our program, strength training will be an important foundation. For the month of February, we will be lifting Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30–5:00 PM. These sessions will focus on developing strength, speed, and proper technique while reinforcing commitment and consistency. To help establish strong communication and share our vision moving forward, we will be holding a parent meeting on Wednesday, March 4th, from 6:00–7:00 PM. I strongly encourage all parents to attend, as this will be an opportunity to discuss expectations, offseason goals, and answer any questions you may have. If your son is currently participating in another sport, please let me know so I can make note of it. We fully support multi-sport athletes and want to ensure proper communication and coordination. I believe the best programs are built through strong relationships between players, families, coaches, and the school community. Open communication and trust will be a priority for me, and I look forward to working alongside you to support our athletes in every way possible. I am energized by the potential of this program and excited about what we can accomplish together. I can’t wait to get started and begin building something special at Walnut Hills. If you have any questions or need to reach me, please feel free to contact me at dwgoodie16@gmail.com. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to meeting you soon. Go Eagles, Coach Goodman Head Football Coach Walnut Hills High School...

In the final regular-season dual meet for both programs ahead of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships, the University of Akron and Ohio University women’s swimming & diving teams squared off Friday afternoon at Ocasek Natatorium. Akron asserted its depth early and never let up, continuing a strong regular-season finish by building a commanding lead over Ohio. Powered by wins across multiple strokes and strong relay performances, the Zips jumped out in front and held a 132–73 advantage on the team scoreboard through the first day of competition. Akron claimed victories in marquee events including the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay, while its sprint and distance groups consistently added points across the pool. Beyond the team standings, the meet carried an added storyline — a reunion of sorts — as two former Walnut Hills Eagles competed on opposite sides of the pool. Sofia Matern — Ohio University (Swimming) https://ohiobobcats.com/sports/wswim/roster/sofia-matern/5719 Now a sophomore for the Bobcats, Sofia Matern graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 2024 and was one of the program’s most decorated swimmers. Coached by Tammy Smith, Matern earned Female Athlete of the Year honors in 2024 and achieved varsity status all four years. She set the school record in the 200 IM in 2023 and was part of the school and pool record–holding 200 medley relay from 2021–2024. A team captain as a senior, Matern qualified for the OHSAA State Championships each year from 2021–2024, leaving a lasting legacy at Walnut Hills. Elizabeth “Bela” Noble — University of Akron (Diving) https://gozips.com/sports/womens-swimming-and-diving/roster/elizabeth-noble/9807 Senior diver Elizabeth “Bela” Noble continued to deliver key points for the Zips, finishing second in the 1-meter diving event in a competitive field. During her Akron career, Noble has earned 13 points at the MAC Championships, contributing to the Zips’ 2023–24 MAC Championship title. Her accolades include All-MAC Second Team honors, selection to the All-MAC Academic Team, and CSCAA Scholar All-American recognition. At Walnut Hills, Noble was equally dominant, capturing an OHSAA Division I State Championship, earning two ECC conference titles, and becoming a two-time All-American and two-time state qualifier. She currently holds the school records in both the 6-dive and 11-dive events. As the regular season concludes and teams begin tapering for the 2026 MAC Championships (Feb. 25–28 at the University of Akron), both programs head into postseason competition with momentum. The sight of former Eagles competing at the highest collegiate level — now leaders for their respective programs — added a meaningful and emotional layer to an already high-stakes MAC dual. We can’t wait to see what Sofia and Bela accomplish when they take the stage again at the MAC Championships later this month. Coach Goodman brings a deep understanding of championship culture, player development, and leadership to Walnut Hills. A respected figure in Cincinnati football, he combines elite playing experience with a proven commitment to mentoring student-athletes both on and off the field. A graduate of Colerain High School, Coach Goodman was a standout football player for one of Ohio’s most storied programs. He led the Cardinals to a 15–0 record and the Ohio Division I state championship as a senior, earning MVP honors in the title game after a historic performance that included a state-final record 259 rushing yards and four touchdowns. His senior season is remembered as one of the best in Colerain history and helped cement his reputation as a dynamic leader and competitor. Coach Goodman continued his football career at the University of Cincinnati, where he became one of the Bearcats’ most productive wide receivers in program history. Over his collegiate career, he ranked among Cincinnati’s all-time leaders in receptions and receiving yards and served as a key offensive weapon throughout his tenure. During his time at UC, Goodman played under Head Coach Brian Kelly and contributed to several successful seasons, including bowl game appearances. He was a standout performer in the 2007 International Bowl, earning game MVP honors and demonstrating his ability to excel on the biggest stages. Following his college playing career, Coach Goodman went on to play professional football both domestically and internationally, further expanding his understanding of the game. He later transitioned into high school athletics, coaching at Colerain (alma mater), Northwest, Princeton, New Miami, and most recently Talawanda, bringing valuable experience from a variety of programs and communities. Coach Goodman will lead the Walnut Hills football program with passion, integrity, and purpose. His vision centers on building a program rooted in accountability, effort, and opportunity—one that reflects the values of Walnut Hills High School and prepares student-athletes for success beyond the field. We are excited to welcome Coach Goodman and his family to the Walnut Hills Eagles community. His leadership, football knowledge, and dedication to student-athletes make him an excellent fit to guide the next chapter of Walnut Hills football. #GoEagles ...

Walnut Hills Junior High showcased strong performances at this year’s Junior High Championships held at Princeton High School on January 24, 2026. Competing against some of the region’s top programs, the Eagles displayed determination, teamwork, and impressive individual efforts throughout the meet. The Walnut Hills relay teams made their mark early in the competition. The mixed 200-yard medley relay team, featuring Sonia Amsterdam-Warner, Sadie Tregre, Sam Wood, and Arlo Perica, finished in 8th place with a time of 2:02.37. Another relay team with Emerson Cure, Mac Brock, Lowell Hubbell, and Sam Schmitt completed the event in 14th place. These performances highlighted the team’s depth and collaborative spirit. Individually, Walnut Hills swimmers delivered notable results across multiple events. Rose Sikes earned a podium finish in the women’s 25-yard freestyle, claiming 3rd place in a competitive field, while Sadie Tregre placed 2nd in the women’s 50-yard freestyle with a strong 26.64-second swim. Izzy Reising and Haley Gloeckler also contributed with top-15 finishes in the butterfly events, demonstrating the team’s versatility across strokes. On the boys’ side, Arlo Perica turned in a standout performance in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing 2nd with a time of 25.34 seconds. Sam Wood also placed 5th in the same event, while Sam Schmitt and Theo Lynch posted solid times in the 200-yard freestyle, contributing valuable points for the Eagles. Walnut Hills head coach Hannah Greulich praised the team’s effort: “Our swimmers showed incredible focus and teamwork today. Many of these athletes are still developing their skills, and it’s exciting to see their hard work translate into strong performances at a championship meet.” The Eagles’ showing at Princeton reflects both individual talent and the strength of the program’s junior high training pipeline. With several promising swimmers gaining experience at the championship level, Walnut Hills is poised to continue building momentum into the high school program.
