CONGRATULATIONS, JANERIO SPURLOCK - CPS HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2025

Please join the Aiken High School Athletic Department in extending heartfelt congratulations to Janerio Spurlock on his induction into the Cincinnati Public Schools Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025! This honor, recognizing fourteen exceptional individuals, highlights Janerio’s lasting legacy stemming from Aiken High School through his collegiate career. ________________________________________ High School Legacy – Aiken High School Janerio Spurlock’s high school career at Aiken High School (Cincinnati) is impressive and record-setting: • Four-year starter and dominant across multiple seasons in both scoring and rebounding. • Aiken’s all-time leader in points (1,863), rebounds (1,051), and games played—a testament to his consistency and impact. • Averaged approximately 20.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. • Demonstrated elite efficiency: 54% from the field, 40.8% from three-point range, and 77% from the free-throw line. • Garnered regional and national accolades: o Greater Cincinnati Player of the Year (back-to-back years) o Southwest Ohio Player of the Year o All-State and Honorable Mention All-America recognitions o Competed in the Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic, scoring 10 points. These accomplishments made Janerio one of the most decorated athletes in Aiken’s history and a clear standout in the region. ________________________________________ Collegiate Career – Kansas State University (via Chipola JC) Janerio continued his basketball journey in college, showing both skill and resilience: Junior College: Chipola Junior College (Florida) • As a sophomore, he averaged 20.2 points per game, securing his spot among the Top 60 junior college players nationally (per CNNSI.com). • Earned third-team preseason NJCAA All-American honors in 2000. • Twice selected to the all-Panhandle team (2000, 2001). • Maintained a strong shooting profile as a freshman, hitting 41% from three-point range. Kansas State University Wildcats • Joined Kansas State, bringing his athleticism and shooting edge to the Big 12 stage. • During the 2001–02 season, as a junior: o Played in the first 7 games, starting in 3. o Averaged 6.6 points, 4.0 rebounds per game. o Recorded standout performances: 11 points vs. Tennessee State and 12 points (and 9 rebounds) vs. Gardner–Webb. • Tragically, his season was cut short due to a fractured patella in December 2001. • His resilience was evident; he fully rehabilitated the injury and was considered for a starting role thereafter. ________________________________________ Why This Induction Matters Janerio Spurlock’s induction into the CPS Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 is a well-deserved honor that celebrates: • Excellence and leadership at Aiken High School—statistical dominance, efficiency, and accolades across the board. • Progression and perseverance through junior college and into Division I basketball, showcasing skill and adaptability. • Character and resilience—not just in athletic accomplishments, but in overcoming adversity. ________________________________________ Final Congratulations Congratulations, Janerio Spurlock!
